We’re in a very exciting time as a church family.

God has been speaking to us and leading us in different ways over the last few years – stirring us, challenging us, and calling us forward into the future he has for us. This journey has included:

Roy Harris’ word at Dwell a few years ago:

“Will you be the generation?”

That is, A generation of people who pursue’s God wholeheartedly, with clean hands and a pure heart? Will we pursue all that he has for us even sometimes at the cost of letting go of what has been?

Keath’s prophetic sermon at Dwell entitled:

“Our future will look different to our past.”

The Vision & Mission process – where we engaged the whole church – from the eldership, the leadership team, the pride, the youth and anyone else that wanted to participate – as we endeavoured to listen and hear further what God was highlighting and asking us to be and, indeed to become. We landed with new language to explain our vision and mission:

Vision:

On earth as it is in heaven

Mission:

Loving God

Equipping People

Strengthening Community

Transforming the World

During this journey, one of the things we’ve felt God calling us to is to be a church which increasingly engages with the world around us, the communities in which we live, work and worship; to be a church who’s presence is felt as we love, serve and shape our city as Kingdom salt and light.

This looks like a myriad of things for us. It includes gathering around Chris & Kirsty who recently got married – celebrating who they are, and supporting them in their journey towards a brighter future.

It also includes the very exciting story that is unfolding as KingsGate Wimbledon Village – where A bunch of KingsGators, who live within Wimbledon, gathered under the leadership of Bron & Carl, will be establishing a KingsGate church community with the intent of seeing God’s kingdom extended. They’ll be working intentionally to see the local community impacted by the power and breadth of the gospel of Jesus. KingsGate Wimbledon Village is having its formal launch on the 9th April at 4pm, but the launch team will start meeting together on Sundays from next Sunday.

Our journey also includes what God is doing in and through us in the area of Cobham. A team has been prayer walking in Cobham since early 2016 – praying for the people of Cobham and asking God for his wisdom and insight into what the next steps for KingsGate could be in Cobham. We’re going to be going ahead with having a Connect Group in Cobham that will meet 2 Sundays a month.

This multiplying story for KingsGate has been one where the elders have done our very best to hear God at every point, and to wrestle through various aspects of what this will look like. We’re very excited!

Our thinking, going forward, is that:

KingsGate is one church, with multiple communities.

Each local KingsGate community is led by a couple:
Ham – Chandlers
Kingston – Gaitskell’s
WV – Lunderstedt’s

In this multiplied future, we realised it’s not realistic and effective to have all elders trying to get into all the detail across the different communities. So we’re moving towards each of the couples on eldership focussing on one particular community. We’re calling each team of elders a “Community Eldership Team”.

The Buys’ are focussing on KingsGate Kingston AM, along with the Kettles once they return from a long leave resting time. The Harper’s are continuing to head up KingsGate Kingston PM congregation. The Henderson’s are captaining the Cobham team, which includes the Reeves’ and the Nels’.

The lead couple of each Community Eldership Team forms a team that helps oversee the broader KingsGate story. This team is the Stewardship Team, and is captained by Keath and Michelle Gaitskell – no big changes there!

With each KingsGate community focussing on serving and loving its local area, it’s made sense for us to decentralise all the ministries. This means each local KingsGate church community will have ministries that run to serve the local community – both those within and beyond the church family. Even though we’re decentralising ministries, we are still a family and will still operate as one – sharing resources and spiritual gifts wherever we can.

In some ways, all this info about the restructuring is important. But what’s most important is all that is staying the same.

Kingsgate is still a church that has at its centre, at its heart – one person.

Jesus.

KingsGate will continue to be a bunch of people to love Jesus radically and do life together in community.

KingsGate will continue to be an eclectic bunch of ordinary people who are transformed by His grace & love and see the extraordinary things of the kingdom in our everyday lives.

KingsGate will continue to be a passionate collection of worshippers and prayers, of misfits and men & women on a mission together.

KingsGate will continue to be a church where there is space for everyone – no matter your story or background.

As the KingsGate church family we will continue to give everything we’ve got to see Jesus’ prayer answered – in Kingston, Ham, WV, Cobham… in South West London, and beyond:

On earth as it is in heaven!
